Uptown Funk

What was originally planned as a surprise for 140 Year 13 students, produced a surprise for all involved when it reached 21000 views on You Tube. The staff planned and performed Uptown Funk around school with teachers and school staff recreating each scene of the original Bruno Mars video. Hannah Khan, Head of Sixth Form, said “this year group has been exceptional. They have a superb work ethic and have spent hours beyond the classroom working towards their exams. Balancing this intense workload together with the extensive range of extra-curricular activities hasn’t been easy but they have embraced many opportunities. However, what makes them unique is their readiness to step in and help other across and beyond the school community. We wanted to do something memorable for a very special group of students.”

The choreography, direction and production was the work of three Year 13 students who studied Film Studies A level: Ben Cridge, Lukas Pace and Chris Chapman accepted the challenge to support the staff to create the video without their peers discovering the plan. Hours of secret filming paid off when the video was aired during the Year 13 leavers’ assembly. The response was phenomenal as has been the number of views of the video, posted on YouTube.

Building a bench

In the summer of 2014, an ex-teacher at the school built some benching for the students by the side of our Music block with help from students.  A time lapse video of the construction can be found
