To celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Horse, students took part in a range of cultural activities supported by Confucius Classroom (CC) funding.
On 23 February, a professional production team performed Ballad of Mulan at the Berkeley Theatre for Key Stage 3 Chinese and Japanese learners, along with some Year 7 French students. The performance was well received, and students engaged enthusiastically in a question and answer session afterwards.
Year 8 and Year 9 Chinese learners also explored Chinese traditions through a traditional tea ceremony, learning about different types of tea and key elements of tea culture. Students practised Chinese calligraphy, writing the character “福” which symbolises happiness and good fortune, and painted Peking opera face masks. Some feeder primary school pupils were also able to join these activities. Chinese learners also had the opportunity to make and taste traditional Chinese New Year dumplings as part of the celebrations.
