Design Technology

Key Stage 3

Studying design and technology at Key Stage 3 will provide all students with the ability to design and manufacture a wide range of products drawing upon traditional and modern skills and techniques.

In Year 7 we introduce the use of materials and tools to manufacture a wide range of products in each of the design and technology disciplines.

In Year 8 students develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform designing and making tasks confidently. They build upon the work from year 7 to apply a range of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality products for a wide range of users.

In Year 9 we encourage students to develop a love of design and technology and use their increasing skills and knowledge to develop complex and creative products. Students shown links to industry and careers to illustrate the value of taking it at GCSE.

We implement a wide range of traditional and modern techniques, processes during lessons to enhance students’ understanding of the subject. Our CAD/ CAM equipment includes a Laser cutter and a 3D Printer to which students have access for the manufacture of their products.
