Dear Parents and Carers

As mentioned in last week’s letter I will update you every week for the foreseeable future, if there is anything you would like included in this communication please do let me know.

The Covid situation remains stable. As of today we have nine students off school having tested positive either with and LFD or PCR test. Years 9 and 11 are the worst affected with three students off in each of those year groups. As per last week, we have continued with all of our in-school measures including the wearing of masks indoors, including lessons. We will review these measures towards the end of the next week alongside taking further advice from the local authority. If I may ask for you to continue to encourage the twice weekly testing and to not send students to school, and get them booked in for a PCR test, if they have any covid symptoms. Many thanks.

The DfE have just last week awarded our re-build contract to Kier construction following the design competition. They have been excellent to work with to date and now plans can be firmed up and everything readied for the start of the construction phase in June 2022. As part of the process there will be a public consultation event on Wednesday 8th December running from about 2pm to 7pm. It is looking as if we will be able to hold the event in person at school, with opportunities to view the designs and comment on-line also. Kier are working on the detail of the consultation and this will go out to parents and the general public sometime early next week. We are really excited to be entering the next phase of the rebuild programme.

Jon Dudbridge, Assistant Head, has been working with colleagues and students to update our rewards system. We had a new ‘covid-safe’ prize-giving last term, the video of which can be viewed on the website using this link, where we celebrated the many successes of our students. Last week we rewarded 110 students with breakfast for their hard work in term 1, link to some pictures here. We are now working with students and colleagues to develop the rewards system further.

There has been much sporting activity and success over the past week or so including Saturday fixtures, National Cup success for the Y10 boys rugby team, the U14 girls football team continuing their impressive run in the English School’s National Cup, The U18 girls hockey team coming runners up in the South West Regional finals, U16 girls winning their hockey fixture at Denmark Road and an impressive 44 Y8 boys representing KLB against Marling School….amongst much else!

On a slightly different note, we are seeking a Flute & Clarinet teacher for January. If you are interested or know of someone who might be, please get in touch with Danielle Dudbridge, Head of Performing Arts. Year 11s will be starting to contemplate their futures, as such, they may well be thinking about joining our excellent Sixth Form. Miss Khan is launching the application process today with the trio of videos about the Sixth Form going live on the website later and the new prospectus and course guide being also available on-line (hard copies will be distributed next week).

And finally, don’t forget that students and staff are not in school tomorrow, Friday 19th November.

Yours faithfully,

Rewards breakfasts
