Many Year 11 students have gained excellent GCSE results in their examinations this summer. This was the first year that the new, far more challenging, GCSE examinations in English and mathematics were taken. Nonetheless, over 70% of students achieved 5 or more passes at Grade C or above, including the equivalent grade 4 or above for English and mathematics. For the new ‘basics’ measure, 79% of the year group achieved a grade 4 in English and mathematics.
These results reflect the hard work by the students who now have an excellent foundation for the next steps in their education, whether that is A level courses, college courses or apprenticeships and training.
