We are very proud to be able to announce that Eryn Wagstaff in Year 7 has won the National Literacy Trust ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ writing competition. Students were asked to imagine that there has been a wild snowstorm overnight, in which five feet of fresh snow has fallen. Hearing their school is closed, they had to imagine what happens next and write a diary entry in the style of Greg and Rowley. Students could also choose to illustrate their entry in the Jeff Kinney style.
Eryn’s entry went through several rounds of judging to be selected and shows her skill in adapting her writing to a particular genre and style through both the choices of language, but also punctuation and typography.
Eryn has won a ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Meltdown’ copy, signed by Jeff Kinney and £100 worth of Puffin Books for herself which she has now collected from the Library. For the school, she has won an additional £500 worth of Puffin Books which we look forward to receiving in the near future.
