About Our Governors

Foundation Governors:

Mr Mark Baker

Mark joined the governing body in November 2020. He lives in Tetbury with his wife Susan. He has one son currently at Bristol University. After over 30 years in IT, building, maintaining and managing large scale computing facilities and staff he took early retirement in 2010 and started a small Car Audio & Security business which he maintains an interest in. He has extensive experience in procurement, management and personnel. These days his time is spent sitting as a tier 1 judge in the family courts and a magistrate in the adult courts. His interests include motorcycles, rugby, DIY and travelling.

Mrs Margaret Clarke

In 1985, as Chair of KLB PTA, Margaret was encouraged to stand and was elected for one of the new positions of parent governor, when the school was first allowed to have parent governors. Then in 1989, she became an LEA governor and in 1994 a Foundation Governor and a Trustee of the Foundation. Margaret was Chair of the governing body for 10 years and is currently Chair of the KLBS Foundation.

Dr John Cordwell

John joined the governing body in 1981 and has served both as chair and vice-chair. He is a Trustee of the Foundation. He has been a county councillor for the Wotton-under-Edge electoral division since 1981 and a Wotton town councillor since 1979. Following a career in the nuclear power industry, he became a school inspector for Ofsted, later copy-editing and carrying out quality assurance checks on school inspection reports. Since then he has undertaken other editing work, including school science textbooks.

Mr Carl Jenner

Carl joined the governing body in June 2014. He works as an accountant for Magnox Ltd based at Berkeley. He has extensive experience in financial planning, budgetary control and cost forecasting and has been heavily involved in the project teams for three major financial system implementations during his thirty-year career. Until joining the governing body at KLB he had also served as a governor at a local primary school for over fourteen years. Carl is married and lives in Wotton-under-Edge and all three of his children attended KLB.

Mrs Helen Holman

Helen was appointed to the governors in October 2017. She has lived in the Wotton area for 30 years. Her 2 sons both attended KLB. Her first career was as a research scientist but after her children were born she trained to be a science teacher. Her passion for science teaching grew into a passion for the broader aspects of education and finally for school leadership. She retired in July 2017 after 11 years as headteacher of Orchard School in Bristol. Her interest in and passion for education continue.

Mr Simon Weston

Simon joined the Governing Body in October 2018. He was a Governor at Bluecoat CEVA Primary School, Wotton-under-Edge, for 7 years and Chair of Governors for 3 years. Simon is a Chartered Architect and is a director of an Architecture and Building Surveying Practice in Bristol. Simon has lived in Wotton since 1999.

Co-opted governors:

Peter Adams

Pete joined the governing body in January 2019 with previous experience as a governor at a rural village primary school and an inner-city secondary academy. He is director of a health, safety and environmental management consultancy with extensive prior experience of HS&E in higher education and defence.  Pete is married to Sarah with two boys who are both pupils at KLB, and the family lives in the outlying catchment area for KLB in Little Sodbury End.  Other interests include motorcycling, classic car restoration, playing guitar and football.

Sarah Plant

Sarah was co-opted to the governing body in September 2017. She attended KLB herself as a pupil from 1997 completing the sixth form in 2004. Sarah works in a technical role in research and design at the locally based engineering company, Renishaw plc. Engineering is a problem-solving discipline requiring great attention to detail and Sarah brings this experience to the governor role. Since 2011, she has lived in Chipping Sodbury.

Parent governors:

Ben Rousseau

Ben joined the governing body in March 2018. Ben is a former pupil of KLB, growing up in Wotton-under-Edge and Kingswood until he finished the sixth form in 1989. He has over 25 years of experience in pharmaceutical and healthcare consultancy, with a focus on strategic communications. After living in Cambridge, London and Macclesfield, in 2016 Ben returned to Wotton under Edge with his family. His son and daughter both attend KLB.

Andrew Covell

Andrew was elected to the Governing body in March 2019 and brings previous experience as a governor of a medium-sized primary school where he was vice-chair and chair of the Finance, Premises and Staff committee. A Chartered Quantity Surveyor, he has significant experience of the design, procurement, construction and maintenance of schools having been a Lead Technical Advisor on the Building Schools for the Future Programme. Andrew is currently on secondment working on a large infrastructure project in the South West. He lives in Thornbury and is married to Sarah, and has two children one of whom attends KLB.

Bobbie Miller

Bobbie joined the governing body in October of 2020. Her only child is a current pupil at KLB. Bobbie has been a teacher of science (Biology) and Spanish in the US, Spain and the UK since 2007. She now works at a local independent school advising pupils and supporting their applications to universities outside of the UK. Bobbie and her family have lived in Berkeley since 2018 and previously lived in Bristol.

Paul Downs

Staff governors:

Tim Rand

Tim joined KLB school as Headteacher in April 2019 having previously been Deputy Head at both Sheldon School in Chippenham and Archway School in Stroud. Before joining the teaching profession in his mid-twenties, Tim worked in a number of industries including recruitment and tourism. Gloucestershire has been his home now for over 20 years having relocated from the South-East. Tim is married with two children.

Sharon Reynolds

Sharon joined KLB as Head of Psychology in September 2019. Her son has been a student at KLB. She spent many years working and travelling in Europe and the USA before settling down in London where she became a mature student qualifying as a teacher of Geography and Psychology. Sharon then moved to Wotton under Edge to work at Marlwood School in the early 2000s where she has taught geography, psychology, BTEC children’s care, learning and development and sociology.
