About Our Trustees

Foundation Appointed Trustees:

Ann McDonald

Ann joined the Board of Trustees in September 2022. Previously she held the role of Principal and CEO of Kellett School, The British International School in Hong. Her tenure spanned twenty-three years. Working closely with its Board and like-minded colleagues the school grew from a small primary to one of Hong Kong’s leading not-for-profit international schools, offering inclusive British style education to predominantly expatriate English-speaking students aged 4-18 years. Retiring in 2019, she returned to Gloucestershire in 2020, her ‘grown up’ gap year travels prematurely curtailed in Angola.

Andrew Covell

Andrew was first elected to the Trustee body in March 2019. A Chartered Quantity Surveyor, he has significant experience of the design, procurement, construction and maintenance of schools having been a Lead Technical Advisor on the Building Schools for the Future Programme. Andrew is currently on secondment working on a large infrastructure project in the South West. He lives in Thornbury and is married to Sarah and has two children both of whom formerly attended KLB.

Paul Downs

Paul joined the board of trustees in December 2020 and also continues to serve as a governor at a local Thornbury primary school. A chartered civil engineer who has spent the last 10 years managing flood defence construction project cross Southwest England. Paul is married to Nikki who is a teaching assistant, they have two daughters at KLB school. 

Stephen Watson

Stephen was elected to the Trustee body in Dec 21 and is a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy, bringing with him operational experience of managing a variety of different organisations. A Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, he is also the Chair for the UK Armed Forces Judo Association, and a board member of the British Judo Council. Based at RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset, he commutes daily from his home in Wotton under Edge He is married to Charlotte – a Management Consultant and has a daughter who attends KLB.

Zarah Morwood 

Zarah is an Employment Law Solicitor with over 22 years’ experience working for various law firms and private businesses. She currently runs her own Legal Consultancy, where she works for various law firms and advises clients on all aspects of employment law and HR matters. She has also really enjoyed working as a part-time Law Lecturer at her local university and has served as a Community Governor at a secondary school in Buckinghamshire. She has also been a voluntary member of an Independent Advisory Group acting as a link between the community and the local police. Zarah takes a keen interest in utilising all her skills and experience to try and help others and bring a positive change. She is currently also a board level Trustee at a local multi academy trust. Zarah and her husband Ray moved to South Gloucestershire in 2021 with their young daughter who currently attends KLB.

Co-opted trustees:

Sarah Plant

Sarah was co-opted to the trustee body in September 2017. She attended KLB herself as a pupil from 1997 completing the sixth form in 2004. Sarah works in a technical role in research and design at the locally based engineering company, Renishaw plc. Engineering is a problem-solving discipline requiring great attention to detail and Sarah brings this experience to the governor role. Since 2011, she has lived in Chipping Sodbury.

Simon Weston

Simon joined the Trustee Body in October 2018. He was a Trustee at Bluecoat CEVA Primary School, Wotton-under-Edge, for 7 years and Chair of Governors for 3 years. Simon is a Chartered Architect and is a director of an Architecture and Building Surveying Practice in Bristol. Simon has lived in Wotton since 1999.

Lucy Stacey

Lucy joined the Board of Trustees in January 2023 as the Associate Staff Trustee. Previously she worked in London in the Music Industry, before spending a few years abroad with her husband and family. Lucy has worked in the school since 2006, holding such diverse rolls as Receptionist to Clerk to the Governors, as well as other jobs within the school. Lucy recently returned to the Office as an Administrator. Lucy’s daughters were both at KLB and she lives in Kingswood with her husband and younger daughter. She was also involved in KLB Friends for many years.
