Bereavement Support at KLB

At KLB, we recognise that grief and loss can have a significant impact on young people. Bereavement can affect emotions, behaviour, relationships and learning, and every student will experience grief in their own way.

We are committed to supporting students through these difficult times with care, understanding and compassion.

When to Seek Support

You may wish to seek additional support if your child:

  • Is experiencing ongoing sadness, anxiety or anger
  • Is struggling to cope with daily life or school
  • Finds it difficult to talk about their feelings
  • Appears withdrawn or isolated

Early support can make a significant difference and help young people feel less alone.

Support in School

We offer a bereavement support group for students, providing a safe and supportive space where they can:

  • Remember the person who has died
  • Talk about their experiences (if they feel comfortable)
  • Understand that their feelings are normal
  • Express difficult emotions in a healthy way
  • Learn coping strategies to help manage grief
  • Connect with others who may have had similar experiences
  • Gain additional support around key events throughout the year eg Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas.

Students are never pressured to speak and can take part at a pace that feels right for them. Sessions are led by Mrs Daniel (SEND and Wellbeing Family Liaison) who has been trained by Winston’s Wish , a charity who focuses on supporting bereaved children.

If you feel your child may benefit from this support, please email your child’s tutor, Head of Year, Mrs Landeg (Equity Lead clandeg@klbschool.org.uk)  or Mrs Daniel (jdaniel@klbschool.org.uk)
