SGS College Taster Sessions 2024

CareersKLB

Thirty-six year 11 students had the chance to visit SGS College in Stroud to try out some of the practical courses on offer at the college.

Over the day, they ‘tasted’ three sessions from a selection of construction skills (brick-laying, carpentry, electrics or plumbing), creative skills (including fine art, make-up artistry, photography and music), animal sciences, forensics and criminology, or health and social care.

The students thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to experience college life. As well as the individual courses, they soaked up the college environment and atmosphere and mixed with students from other schools. We have included a few of their reflections form the day below:

Much more interesting than just open days because you can try the sessions. Right now, I know better what I want and what I need to choose for my T levels

Welcoming and friendly – helped me pick the subjects I will do when I go there.

My favourite part was games design and music. The teachers were very funny and informative.

I enjoyed experiencing a different atmosphere and environment at SGS.

The staff were supportive when you didn’t understand. They were also very comfortable to be around.

I loved Design and Communication because it allowed me to be able to communicate with other people I didn’t know.

I liked SGS College because I felt really free and also felt like an adult. Bricklaying was really good and I am considering doing an apprenticeship at Stroud College.

The students behaved impeccable throughout and it was a pleasure to see them engaging so well in every aspect of the day and making best use of the opportunity to explore possible post-16 options.
