Shine Awards 2024

KLB

The Shine School Media Awards is a free national competition that rewards a diversity of talent from secondary schools across the UK who work on the writing, editing, design and fund-raising for a school newspaper, magazine or multimedia project such as a podcast or digital publication.

A small year 8 team of students have worked hard over the last five months to create a magazine to enter into the Award and we are delighted to report that they have been shortlisted for the final!

The aims of the award are to encourage an interest in publishing and to nurture creativity, as well as to develop literacy, business, teamwork and leadership skills.

As part of the project, the students conducted an interview with Andrew Starling, past KLB student and owner of The Falcon Steakhouse in Wotton under Edge. The students drafted some wonderful questions around the theme of resilience, and wrote a super piece based on Andrew’s responses.

The students will attend the competition final at Stationers Hall in London on Monday 1 July. Amongst other activities, the event will include a cartoon workshop by Steven Marchant, lunch and the awards ceremony itself.
We are incredibly proud of this group of students; the competition rules state that the project needs to be entirely driven by the student team with no intervention from their teacher and they really did embrace the challenge.

Well done to Guney, Lacey, Katie, Emily, Grace, Theadora and Freya who collaborated on the project and produced such a fabulous magazine.
