Wellbeing and support

At KLB School, we believe in promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing. Prioritising the wellbeing of students and staff ensures that outstanding teaching and learning can take place and that the school is a community where everyone feels able to thrive.

Our Approach

Supporting students

As part of the school’s commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing, the school offers universal support to all students by:

  • Raising awareness of mental health during assemblies, tutor time, PSHE and mental health awareness days/weeks. Making school a safe space to discuss mental health and wellbeing
  • Having open discussions about mental health during lessons
  • Providing students with avenues to provide feedback on any elements of the school that is negatively impacting their mental health
  • Signposting all students to sources support
  • Monitoring of all students’ mental health through student wellbeing questionnaires
  • Offering pastoral support through tutors and heads of year
  • Restorative/Relational approach to behaviour
  • Wide range of extra-curricular clubs and opportunities
  • Signposting parents to Gloucestershire Families Directory and other sources of support
  • Parent workshops
  • Staff training

Assessing what further support is needed:

If a student is identified as having a mental health need, the pastoral team will take a graduated and case-by-case approach to making an assessment and providing tailored support. Further details on the graduated pathway are shown below.
