UWE Girls in Tech Event 2026

KLBTrips

A group of 13 Year 10 students attended the UWE Bristol Girls in Tech Day, an inspiring event designed to encourage curiosity and interest in technology and careers in the sector.

Students took part in four hands-on activities throughout the day:

• Cryptography (HP) – using Caesar ciphers to write and encode secret messages.
• AI Ethics (UWE Digital Learning Team) – exploring ethical questions around artificial intelligence and how values can be programmed into technology.
• Digital Escape Rooms (Gemba Advantage) – working collaboratively under pressure to solve themed challenges ranging from quantum physics to cyber security.
• Games Design (UWE Games Technology Faculty) – creating a game during a mini “game jam”, developing a theme, task and goal before testing third-year undergraduate games and providing feedback.

Students showed excellent enthusiasm and engagement in every session, making the most of the opportunity to explore technology and STEM careers. It is hoped the trip will run again in the future to support even more young women interested in STEM.
