The two years in Sixth Form will be a challenging and exciting time, both academically and personally. We pride ourselves on providing excellent pastoral care to support students through these crucial years, striving to ensure that all students feel included and supported.
Pastoral care at KLB Sixth Form is based on personal relationships and an overall ethos of mutual respect, openness and care. Amid the pressures of A-Levels, it is imperative to us that we provide a supportive and caring atmosphere in which students can be happy, confident and have the freedom to grow into themselves.
All staff take a role in supporting students. Key figures with specific responsibility for student welfare in the Sixth Form are the Head of Sixth Form, Deputy Head of Sixth Form and tutors.
All students are encouraged to pursue other interests outside of their studies. You all have an important role to play within the school and local community. Listed below are some of the opportunities available to Sixth Form students:
- Drama and music productions
- Supporting Year 7 tutor groups
- Counselling younger students (Talk In Confidence)
- Helping out at open evenings and parents’ evenings
- Duke of Edinburgh Award
- Sporting representation including rugby, hockey, football and netball.
- Sixth Form committee
Most of our students apply for Higher Education and will be competing against the best from other state and independent schools. Our Higher Education consultant and sixth form team aim to offer students the best possible support, whether it’s choosing the right courses, crafting a UCAS personal statement that will stand out from the rest or preparing for that all-important interview. We take great pride in seeing our students do well, with many gaining places on the most competitive degree courses in the country.
Students also benefit from careers support which enables them to gain self-knowledge and an awareness of the vast number of opportunities available beyond the sixth form. Regular opportunities are created for open dialogue on progress and pathway choices to support students and their families as they take the first step towards their future adventures after Sixth Form. Tutors, alongside the school’s careers department, ensure that information and advice is readily available when students need it.
