County and National Success for School Equestrian Team 2022

Sport

Several intrepid KLB equine enthusiasts journeyed to Rectory Farm near Cirencester to compete to qualify for the National School Equestrian Association’s Championship at the mecca of British Show jumping, Hickstead near Brighton. Four year 7 pupils, Lizzie and Grace German (2nd and 5th individually), Flo Hall-Smith and Tensie Littlewood (15th) and were entered into the 70/75cms class and they rode to victory taking first place as a team and qualifying for the National Championships.

Of the four qualifying riders only two of the original team, Lizzie and Grace German, were able to attend the National final at Hickstead. Needing a team of at least three to compete, Harvey Barfoot Saunt (Year 10) who had already qualified for the Championships on the Monday, kindly agreed to come early to make up the team for the Final. The journey for all the ponies and competitors was a long one down to Brighton but that did not deter the team from excelling in their class. All three team members, featured on the right, completed clear rounds with only the timing to delineate between placings. The team took team 7th out of over 30 teams. A fantastic achievement.

On the Monday Harvey competed on Diablo, representing Gloucestershire and KLB, in the NSEA National Inter-County 90cm Show-Jumping Competition. The combination continued their good run of form to take third place. The National NSEA Championships saw four full days of competition and over 1500 competitors, but the results speak for themselves.
