U15 Gloucester Rugby Girls Rugby Festival Runners-Up 2017

On Friday 4 May, six girls, featured in the photo below, joined Beaufort School to form a joint team to play against teams throughout Gloucestershire at Kingsholm Stadium, Gloucester. A high tempo team-bonding warm-up, led by Dave Barton, our KLB coach, meant we were ready to face our first opposition Severn Vale. Strong running by Jodi Palmer and excellent support play from her sister, Izzy Palmer contributed to our 4-1 win. This was followed immediately with a game against Chosen Hill. Strong tackling from Suzie York and impressive handling on the wing by Immy Doole gave us our second win two tries to zero. Anna Symanowski and Eliza Boyd made some forging runs in the final game against Ribston, where we notched up our third win 2-0.

The three wins in our pool games meant we were crowned Pool winners and we played the other pool winners, High School for Girls, HSFG, in the Final.

This was going to be a tricky encounter, as most of the HSFG squad were County players. Our side did really well to hold back the relentless attacks forward from HSFG in the first half of the game. However, after an injury to, player of the festival, Jodi Palmer, our defence broke and the opposition ran in four tries.

Thanks to Dave Barton for his invaluable support and guidance on the day. Our girls were a credit to our school, effectively joining forces with Beaufort School and showing excellent teamwork throughout the festival.
