NSEA Eventers Challenge 80cm Winners 2020
G Clarke, L Clarke, H Barfoot-Saunt, J Harkley

It was an early start for four KLB riders on Saturday 25th January as they made their way to West Wilts Equestrian Centre for the NSEA Eventers Challenge Hickstead Qualifiers.

The first class was the 70cms competition and KLB were drawn first to ride. The team comprised of Jack Harkley on Bailey, Grace Clarke on Hot Chocolate, Lily Clarke on Milly and Harvey Barfoot-Saunt on Diablo (left to right). Each round is timed so we knew we needed to be quick and as usual the competition is always strong at these events. The team were placed 3rd overall, just missing out on a Hickstead Qualification card by less than a second. Individually, Harvey was placed a well-deserved 2nd and qualified for Hickstead.

The same four riders went on to compete in the 80cms competition, which was another highly competitive class. As the competition was indoors, this meant the course was twisty, technical, fast and full-up, which had the potential to force errors to narrow the field. They did amazingly well and in a strong field, they were placed a very creditable 1st, which means they are now off to the Hickstead Championships in May. Individually, there was more success for Harvey, who won the class followed very closely by Lily, who was placed 3rd.

It was an amazing day with great results. Good luck to the team at the Championships in May.

There will be more NSEA competitions taking place over the next few months at venues such as: – Stonar, West Wilts, Hartpury and Rectory Farm. Please take a look at the NSEA website for further information and let Mrs Bates know if you are interested in representing the school.
