British Schools Pistol Shooting Qualifier Success 2022

Sport

Sixteen KLB students recently took part in the British Schools Pistol Shooting qualifiers in Sherborne and the Welsh National Championships in Cardiff.

The competitions require competitors to shoot 20 pellets at a tiny target which is 10 metres away. Competitors need nerves of steel, a good eye and an ability to concentrate whilst being surrounded by external noise and disturbance. The top 8 competitors in each age group then battle it out in a series of elimination final where the lowest scoring individual gets knocked out after each round of shooting.

Our junior team of Lizzy German, Dottie Read, Tensie Littlewood and Grace German finished 2nd, as did our senior team of Harvey Barfoot Saunt, Luca Hall and Joshua Ellis.

Our Intermediate team gained automatic qualification to the National finals as all the other competitors were individuals so they were the only team in this age group. Well done Bess Higton, Tahlia Coombes and Winnie Read.

Dottie Read came 3rd individually so qualifies for National Finals in February. Harvey Barfoot Saunt reached the final in the senior age group and eventually came 7th individually.

Well done to everyone who competed in these hugely competitive events. It was fabulous to be able to send representation from KLB across the years (Lucy Cranwell and Buster Coombes in Y7, Lizzie and Grace German, Tensie Littlewood, Dottie Read and Olivia Sheldon in Y8, Ella Cranwell and Winnie Read in Y9, Bess Higton and Tahlia Coombes Y10 and Harvey Barfoot Saunt, Luca Hall, Joshua Turnbull, Joshua Ellis, and Michael Bernard from Y11.

We wish our individual finalists and our qualifying teams all the best in the National Finals in February 2023.
