KLB Students Achieve 2nd Place at Youth Speaks Regional Final 2023

KLB

On 11 February, KLB’s winning Youth Speaks debating team took part in the regional final held at Maisemore Village Hall. Our speakers were Olivia Sheldon, Dottie Read and Grace German who spoke eloquently on the motion ‘Is horse racing an abuse of power?’

They were up against stiff competition from Redmaids High School, Wycliffe College and Marling School. KLB distinguished themselves with the confidence of their delivery and the power of their arguments.

Indeed, the quality of all the debates was very high indeed and the judges commented on how difficult it was to ultimately separate the teams. Indeed, the difference in final scores between the four teams was marginal. But a winner had to be chosen and while Redmaids eventually came out on top, KLB’s young team did themselves huge credit by clinching a very close second place.

We look forward to Olivia, Dottie and Grace taking part in future Youth Speaks competitions where they can show off their considerable public speaking skills.
