Boys District Table Tennis Tournament
With the preliminary round of the school games upon us once again, we were able to enter two teams of four boys:
- The U16 Boys – Sam Green, Luke Andrews, James Austen and Matthew Robins
- The U13 Boys – Joseph Hadley, Matthew Pullen, Morgan Bennett and Lewis Bateman
We travelled to Marling School for the competition and played against two other teams, Marling School and Thomas Keble. Matches played were best out of five games.
Our U16 team fought hard, with matches against each school being very tough. Marling School proved too strong in the end, becoming overall winners. KLB U16 boys had a respectable win over Thomas Keble, finishing in second place.
KLB U13 boys also had tough opposition in the Marling school team who were playing extremely well. Marling claimed first place and KLB managed a well-deserved second place, beating Thomas Keble with ease.
All the boys put in a great effort, and when asked, umpired matches when required.
Girls U16 District Table Tennis Tournament
KLB hosted the Girls U16 tournament for the school games. At this level, only two schools in our district entered – KLB and Rednock.
The KLB girls were Sophie Ainsley, India Hampshire and Freya Marshall Austen. They all played well and fought matches that could have gone either way but, sadly, lost out overall to the Rednock girls, who proved stronger on the day. Emily Austen, Year 7, also stepped in to play at the last minute. This was a big ask but Emily held her own in the matches and played extremely well.
Thank you to the boys from the U13 and U16 boys teams, who helped with umpiring the matches for us on the night.
Due to the lack of girls’ teams in the county, the KLB girls have been put through to the next round and will join the U13 girls in Cheltenham on 3 December at the level 3 county games. Good luck to them all.
